Philanthropy meets hunky tonight when the Cape's most eligible bachelor, Chris Lambton, offers up a dream date to benefit a local homeless shelter.

The lean landscaper from Dennis captured America's heart but fell just short of romantic bliss on ABC-TV's "The Bachelorette" last season, when he was bounced at the last minute in favor of the winner, Roberto Martinez.

"I was bored last winter, so I figured, why not travel the world looking for love," Lambton recalled. "Luckily enough I got to go on ABC and got to go to some entertaining places and the best part is it was all free."

Lambton is one of the celebrity hosts of the seventh annual NOAH Telethon to be broadcast from 4 to 9 p.m. tonight on local access cable channels.

A minimum $90 donation to the telethon will allow the donor to enter a raffle with a big payoff: quality hang time with Lambton, including a tour of homeless prevention programs and lunch.

"It is like a date, but I don't mean to be presumptuous," said Rick Brigham, NOAH development coordinator.

"It's an awareness occasion," chimed in Lambton, 33.

The NOAH Center in Hyannis, run by the Housing Assistance Corp., is a 60-bed emergency shelter that serves people who are homeless or facing homelessness. The shelter helps approximately 500 people a year.

"Our church group (Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster) used to go and donate time at the NOAH shelter when we were young, so I went there probably half a dozen to a dozen times and worked there," Lambton said. "Now I get a chance to give back again, which is great."

Lambton said he turned down a return to reality TV as the object of desire in the next season of "The Bachelor."

"I like the Cape and I want to find a girl on my own," he said. "I don't want to be forced into choosing a girl that they say, 'Oh one of these 25 is right for you.' I want to find a girl my own way. I want to fall in love my own way."
